'Just My Type'

As part of the "Just My Type project I had to experiment with type, in order to create an alphabet inspired by one of these words:
Geometry, Layers, Tactile, Manipulated and Reflect.

For the geometry experiment, I tried cutting out bits of paper whilst inserting bits of newspaper and black bits of paper each shape was either cut into straight lines or circles, which is where the geometry comes in.

For tactile, I used buttons to create the letters of the alphabet, as well as this i experimented with hot glue to create the letters too. These, were made so that the alphabet was textures and interesting to touch.

For reflect, I was a little uninspired. I simply mirrored the letters using mirroring lines.

For manipulate, I 'manipulated' bits of wire to create letters. the outcome wasn't as neat as I would have liked it to be, but it's interesting to see how you can manipulate things, shaping them into what you want/need.

For layers, I played around with 'post-it' notes layering them together, so that you could reveal different fonts for each letter as you lift each post-it note.  I also used thread to map out the shape of the letter 'A'. And then cut out letters on different pages, layering them up.

My final piece was mostly inspired by the geometry aspect of it, although it could be said that it was also inspired by layers as collage was also a method used.
